NFL Draft 2009NCAA Scouting – Player Profile:
Kenny Britt, WR, Rutgers
by Jody Jamieson
21/2/2009

Kenny Britt is one of the more difficult players to grade in this years Draft. The first impression I had of him when I saw him was that he looked like a tight end. Of course, the more you watch him play, the more you realise that he’s a playmaking wide receiver that could have a very solid NFL career. There are a few things that I will come to later that rank him down, but there’s no doubt that he’s a player with a bright future.

kenny brittIt’s hard to compare him with any other receiver in the NFL. He reminds me a little of Marques Colston in terms of his size and skill set, but the comparison is a little loose. Obviously Britt will be draft earlier than seventh round pick Colston, but their skill set is fairly comparable. Colston had the same issues in his rookie year Britt has now, but if he can have the same effect as Colston then whoever takes him will be absolutely delighted.

What we like about Britt

Britt is a huge target with a big frame and long arms. 6′ 4″ and 215 lbs. He attacks the ball well and doesn’t catch with his body. Good runner with the ball and is tough to bring down and can get the yards after the catch. Consistent target who fits the bill as a possession receiver. Good blocker in the running game.

Question Marks about Britt

Marginal athlete who runs decent, but slightly robotic routes. Hands are a slight concern, although I wonder how many of his drops were due to questionable throws from his quarterback Mike Teel, who was always a bit erratic. Looks a little lazy at times and his concentration tends to wander.

Highlight of his college career

His numbers in his junior year were impressive and consistent. Out of the 12 games Britt played in, he had eight 100 yard games, including a 6 catch, 119 yard (1 TD) performance in the papajohns.com Bowl against North Carolina State.

Other snippets

Britt was a third Team All-American in 2008.
Had 178 catches for 3,043 yards and 17 touchdowns in his 3 years in college.
Could be a first round pick of the Giants, but is more likely to stick in the 2nd round with a team like St Louis, Jacksonville or Oakland.
