Five minutes with the Diner… Broncos OG Chris Kuper by Michael E Lawrence October 29th 2010
Football Diner Chris youve just arrived a couple of hours ago after a nine hour flight – do you feel like you dont know if youre coming or going right now?
Chris Kuper Yeah, I havent had the chance to take everything in yet Im… Im still kinda tired! Well get some good sleep tonight though.
Football Diner Is this a much bigger deal in terms of body clock issues compared to a typical road game?
Chris Kuper Definitely. The time change I think is seven hours different from Mountain Standard Time, so when we were taking off – no, landing – it was kind of the time it should have been to go to bed.
Football Diner Are you able to put that out of your mind?
Chris Kuper Yeah I mean I just tried to sleep on the flight, but now you gotta fight through it until tonight and then try to get on schedule again.
Football Diner Youve obviously been practicing as usual in Colorado the last three days, so what will happen today work-wise?
Chris Kuper We wanna knock the rust off a bit, get the body going a little bit, start to sweat a little bit so we can lose that haziness you know?
Football Diner And when you look at the 49ers on Sunday, whats the main challenge?
Chris Kuper Weve gotta run the ball against their defense. Its a good defense, coached very well, and with some very talented players. But we definitely want to run the ball.
Football Diner As a guard if the gameplan says run the ball thats exciting because thats something that an NFL offensive lineman loves to do right?
Chris Kuper Yeah, run blocking is definitely what we pride ourselves on.
Football Diner And if Knowshon Moreno isnt at full strength do you still feel confident with one of Buckhalter or Maroney at tailback?
Chris Kuper Oh yeah – we got three good backs back there that can get the job done.
Football Diner The Broncos are mainly a passing team this year – are you looking for more balance?
Chris Kuper Oh absolutely. Weve been looking for it all season you know but weve gotten behind in some games and weve kind of had to abandon the run game. But for us as offensive linemen we want to run the ball as much as possible because it helps the whole offense out, controls the clock and does wonders for the team.
