Raheem Morris: Youngry Bucs are ready by Michael E Lawrence October 19th 2011
The mood at the Buccaneers’ temporary practice facility at an exclusive Surrey hotel was just as you’d expect Wednesday: upbeat, energetic and focussed.
We got a bunch of young guys that love being around each other, said Head Coach Raheem Morris, and for us this is kind of like training camp. We’ve got a youngry – young and hungry -football team that’s ready to come out and play. We’re playing young, we’re playing fast, we’re playing hard and we’re playing consistent.
Coach Morris was practical when it came to the rigors of contesting a second International Series game in the space of three years. This thing’s a little bigger than the Bucs, he said, it’s more about the NFL and promoting our game, and I’m all for it. Our young Bucs team has come out to London to set an example and it’s awesome.
Certainly the Bucs looked rested having arrived in the capital on Monday evening, and young players like DE Adrian Clayborn, WR Mike Williams and QB Josh Freeman were front and centre in the media portion of practice.
Freeman launched crisp passes to newly promoted tailback Earnest Graham and receivers Williams, Arrelious Benn and Preston Parker, among others, and said he was looking forward to Sunday’s game.
The preparation we put in, it’s hard to say that anybody prepares like we do, said Freeman. We take a lot of pride in that, now the goal is to win the football game.
Morris beamed when asked by the Diner about his quarterback’s habit of furious fourth quarter finishes.
It’s certainly worked out well for us and I’m kind of liking the fast finishes now because it’s got us to 4-2, he said. Hopefully we’ll have a chance to keep finishing fast Sunday.
