NCAA Scouting Sixth Round Analysis by Paul Emery April 25th 2010
(170) Rams Fendi Onobun – TE Houston former basketball player at Arizona transferred to Houston to play one year of football. Only had two catches, but is a tremendous athlete.
(171) Falcons (From Lions) – Shann Schillinger – FS Montana small schooler drafted with special teams coverage in mind initially.
(172) Buccaneers Brent Bowden P – Virginia Tech punter who has a strong leg, yet can down punts effectively inside the 20. Solid pick.
(173) 49ers (From Chiefs through Dolphins and Chargers) Anthony Dixon – RB – Mississippi State big, powerful back who lacks top end speed. Has character concerns.
(174) Redskins (From Redskins through Dolphins) Dennis Morris TE/HB – Louisiana Tech under sized TE who projects to TE or FB solid blocker.
(175) Panthers (From Raiders) Greg Hardy – DE Mississippi Hardy dropped because of character and durability concerns. If healthy and motivated he has top 10 talent and this could be the steal of the Draft. Best player at the Shrine Game and good enough off the edge to beat number 6 pick Russell Okung in the Bowl Game.
(176) Titans (From Seahawks) Rusty Smith – QB – Florida Atlantic Smith missed the second half of the season with a non throwing shoulder injury. He’s got ideal size and flashes enough to take a look at this point.
(177) Browns Carlton Mitchell – WR – South Florida has excellent size and speed, but has struggled catching the ball.
(178) Bills Arthur Moats DE/OLB – James Madison small schooler projects to 3-4 OLB in Buffalo has pass rush ability.
(179) Cowboys (From Dolphins) Sam Young – OT – Notre Dame RT type only too tall to move inside to G. Really struggles against edge speed, but is a fit in Dallas.
(180) Jaguars Deji Karim – RB – Southern Illinois productive small schooler had a super pro day to get himself drafted. Jags only went with two TB’s on the roster last year, so he adds depth.
(181) Bears – Dan LeFevour – QB – Central Michigan excellent character and playmaker. Lacks a top arm, but has a quick release and could run some wildcat looks.
(182) 49ers Nate Byham – TE Pittsburgh very effective inline blocker good short range target, lacks the speed to be more of a downfield threat. Similar to Billy Bajema.
(183) Broncos Eric Olsen OC/OG – Notre Dame can play all three interior positions really came on at Center as the season progressed. Aggressive player and a solid pick.
(184) Giants Adrian Tracy – DE – William & Mary has pass rush ability, but isn’t a solid fit in a 4-3 as he lacks ideal bulk.
(185) Seahawks (From Titans) Anthony McCoy – TE USC Coach Carroll knows McCoy better than anyone and takes a calculated risk on his character. An excellent all around TE has enough speed to be more than a short range receiver soft hands.
(186) Browns (From Panthers) – Clifton Geathers – DE – South Carolina has a huge wing span, but is very raw didn’t see a great deal of time in 2009. Interesting length pick for 3-4 DE.
(187) Texans Shelley Smith OG – Colorado State not the best athlete, but is an aggressive type not the best scheme fit.
(188) Steelers – Jonathan Dwyer – RB – Georgia Tech fell after running a slow 40 time. Played FB in a triple option offense a nice fit in a power running game.
(189) Rams (From Falcons) Eugene Sims – LB – West Texas A&M; played DE in college, projects to LB in St Louis. Very raw, even at DE has some pass rush ability.
(190) Raiders (From Patriots) Travis Goethel – ILB 6’2″ 240 Arizona State has solid size and speed will be a star on special teams coverage.
(191) Bengals – Dezmon Briscoe – WR Kansas fell due to character concerns another gamble for the Bengals. Does have talent if he can stay out of trouble.
(192) Bills (From Eagles) Danny Batten DE/OLB – South Dakota State the Bills go for another pass rusher type. Hard worker will also help on special teams.
(193) Packers James Starks – RB Buffalo missed the 2009 season with a knee injury if healthy he’s got talent and could be a steal.
(194) Ravens Ramon Harewood – OT – Morehouse – huge man who moved to America from Barbados and thus has only 4 years of football experience.
(195) Steelers (From Cardinals) Antonio Brown – WR – Central Michigan the Steelers go for another WR who isn’t clean off the field has character concerns. Could help in the slot and in the return game if he stays out of trouble.
(196) Cowboys – Jamar Wall – CB – Texas Tech does have some man ability, but lacks top speed to stay with his man deep.
(197) Texans (From Chargers)- Trindon Holliday – KR LSU has world class straight line speed, but lacks top size. LSU struggled to get him involved offensively, but he will be a dangerous kick returner.
(198) Panthers (From Jets) David Gettis – WR Baylor excellent size and speed pick has some ability, but catches in his body too much.
(199) Vikings – Joe Webb QB/WR – UAB played QB the past two years, but projects to WR at the next level. Superb athlete could also run some wildcat looks. Interesting prospect.
(200) Eagles (From Colts) Charles Scott – RB LSU missed the end of the season and Senior Bowl with injury and then ran a slow 40 time. Powerful runner who runs low to the ground and gets everything he can. Love the player and the fit.
(201) Cardinals (From Saints) Jorrick Calvin – DB Troy didn’t play in 2009 has speed and could help in the return game.
(202) Panthers (Compensatory selection) Jordan Pugh – DB – Texas A&M; moved to FS as a Senior. Doesn’t always take great angles to the ball, but has good speed.
(203) Jaguars (Compensatory selection) – Scotty McGee – KR – James Madison another small schooler for Jacksonville McGee ran a 4.37 40 at his pro day.
(204) Panthers (Compensatory selection) Tony Pike – QB Cincinnati Carolina take yet another QB Matt Moore hasn’t had a great weekend. Pike was productive in the spread, but is stick thin and a major durability concern. Poor performance against Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
(205) Patriots (Compensatory selection) Ted Larsen OC – North Carolina State super pick tough former DT who has only played 2 years on the offensive side of the ball. Still has much to learn, but is a nice fit.
(206) 49ers (Compensatory selection) Kyle Williams – WR – Arizona State should help right away as a returner and possibly down the road in the slot.
(207) Titans (Compensatory selection) Myron Rolle – SS – Florida State missed his Senior year studying as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford. Has decent enough speed and is an under rated prospect.
Summary
Best Pick: Ted Larsen OC Patriots. Aggressive player who is a nice fit in New England has better size than current backup at Center Ryan Wendell.
Worst Pick: Tony Pike QB Panthers yet another QB for the Panthers and one who looked like a rabbit in the headlights against Florida in the Sugar Bowl.
Best Value: Greg Hardy DE Panthers. To get a top 10 talent at this point is worth a gamble on durability and character. Considering players who have already been taken have similar issues, I see this as a great gamble.
Biggest Surprise: Greg Hardy lasting this long and Carolina taking yet another QB Matt Moore must be feeling very uneasy.
