2009 Draft Review… Paul Hopkins & Brian Davis NFL Draft Review Second Day Sleepers In every draft class there are players who are expected to make it and players who break out in their rookie year, surprising even the most knowledgeable of pundits despite how much Mike Mayock tries to tell us he saw it coming. We’ve sifted through the 256 players taken in April to pick out those hidden few who we feel have a chance going into training camp of making their mark from the outset … ( full article ) Jody Jamieson NFL Draft Review Day 2 Review # 65. Jets Shonn Greene RB The Jets started off the first day with a bang, and did the same on Day 2. The Jets only ended up making three selections in this year’s draft, but they made sure they got their man. Shonn Greene from Iowa will be the long term replacement for Thomas Jones and runs in a similar style … ( full article ) Jody Jamieson NFL Draft Review 2nd Round Review # 36. Browns Brian Robiskie WR They should probably have gone defense here, but receiver is a real need and Robiskie has a chance to become a really good one. Even if Braylon Edwards does stay, they need to replace Stallworth who is likely to be unavailable in 2009 … ( full article ) Jody Jamieson NFL Draft Review 1st Round Review # 13. Redskins Brian Orakpo DE The Redskins, like the 49ers, prosper from everyone else’s stupidity. This was the quickest pick of the draft because it was a no brainer. The Redskins become one of the few teams to actually pick the best player available in a position of great need. Now if everyone did this then mock drafting might actually be useful … ( full article ) Rich Lawrence NFL Draft Results 1st & 2nd Round 1. Detroit – Matthew Stafford QB 2. Articles… Sam Monson Combine Winners and Losers The Combine has come and gone, so at the Diner we figured it’s about time we put up a traditional top 5, and ran down the big winners and losers from the time at Indy. The Combine is getting bigger and bigger each year, and the scrutiny on each of the potential draftees only more intense, so who helped themselves, and who cost themselves some money? And as ever at the Diner we like to give you more than you asked for, so this top 5 is in fact a top 6 … ( full article ) Sam Monson The Crabtree Conundrum Michael Crabtree had a big week at the combine, and he didn’t even work out. During routine medicals, doctors discovered a stress fracture in Crabtree’s foot, one that would require a screw to be surgically inserted before it would heal properly, and put the star wideout out for up to 10 weeks. That’s 10 weeks as in after the Draft. NFL Scouts are going to have to decide whether Crabtree is worth the lofty draft status he had before the combine without seeing him ever run a 40 time … ( full article ) Steve Wright 2008 Heisman Trophy And The Winner Is So, the Heisman vote is in folks and we have ourselves a winner with Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford walking away with the trophy. Personally I would have voted for Colt McCoy, who can point to the fact that not only did his Longhorn team beat Bradford’s OU squad, but also the fact that he had comparable numbers with far less of a supporting cast. McCoy is also the ‘Horns leading rusher, despite not having anything like the DeMarco Murray/Chris Brown combo that Bradford can fall back on. Tim Tebow was always going to struggle to convince voters to make him the second repeat winner after Archie Griffin, a product as much as anything of how statistically ridiculous his season last year was… ( full article ) (… Archive: Last years coverage Draft 08 …)

2009 Prospect Profiles…
Featured Profiles… Jody Jamieson Sen’Derrick Marks, DT Player Profile Sen’Derrick Marks isn’t the flashy prospect by any means. He doesn’t get huge numbers from the interior line position, nor does he swarm around the quarterback all day or kill running backs 4 yards deep in the backfield. What you get with Marks is an impressive consistency to stuff the line, eat up blockers, and contribute with one or two big plays … ( full article ) Jody Jamieson Michael Johnson, DE Player Profile Michael Johnson is yet another defensive end in this years draft being touted as a potential 3-4 outside linebacker. While I can understand that notion, he’s one of the few tweener players who looks best suited to playing in the standard 4-3 at defensive end. I love his ability to get to the quarterback, but I do question his decision making and his likelihood of becoming an every down player … ( full article ) (… Archive: Last years coverage Draft 08 …)
