Five minutes with… Brian Urlacher
by Michael E Lawrence
October 21st 2011

Brian Urlacher Brian Urlacher Highlights from Brian Urlacher’s one-to-one with the media Friday:

Q. Are your surprised by the interest in football worldwide?

A. There were a lot of fans at the airport, walking through there. I didn’t know what to expect, but there were a lot of fans outside the hotel and stuff as well.

Q. This is a showcase game for the NFL, do you think it’ll ever catch on here?

Brian Urlacher A. I don’t know. I know soccer’s a big deal over here, I don’t think it’ll ever compare with that over here because they play that from such a young age and a lot of people won’t have seen our football – actual football – here. It’s a new thing for them.

Q. A lot of people are talking about the fact you came over here later than Tampa, do you think there’s too much made of that and will you be physically ready on Sunday?

A. Yes. It’s not a reason to make a big deal out of it you know. We’re here about 48 hours before the game and we’ll be ready to play.

Q. Have you seen any Urlacher jerseys out here?

A. No I haven’t – but I saw a lot of Bears stuff. Actually I saw one of my jerseys at the airport, a lady had it and said ‘will you sign my shirt for me?’

Q. Did it sink in? You’re half way across the world and your jersey’s here…

Brian Urlacher A. No, to me football’s normal so you get used to seeing it back home, but I guess I didn’t know what to expect when I got here.

Q. Did you get a chance to do any sightseeing at all?

A. No, and really, I want to lay around and try and relax tomorrow. Relaxing to me is not walking around, it’s kind of hanging out and doing nothing.

Q. It’s what you do at home though right?

A. Exactly. We have a game on Sunday so as much as I can I want to keep the same routine as I would back home.
