You’re very much one of the faces of the Rams here in London

cortland finnegan CF: I look like a Ram, is that what you’re saying?

Yes. Where are the horns?

CF: Ah, I left them behind.

But you are one of the most recognisable Rams, very much a team leader

CF: Yeah, I think it comes down to age and the way I play the game, and hopefully the respect that I’ve built through my hard work. And I think being a leader is just one of those things that comes with age, because I’m old now.

Hang on, how old are you?

CF: I’m 27 now.

That’s not very old. Are you 27 going on 50 because your body has taken a beating?

cortland finnegan CF: Yeah, it’s my seventh year in the league and I’ve been around. I’ve had a great shot at it and it’s been a really good time.

So when you wake up on a Monday morning after a battle in the secondary, are you pretty sore?

CF: You know what when you win you’re not sore, when you lose you are! It’s just one of those things. I think you’re mind dictates to you that when you lose it hurts, and when you win not so much.

What are the attributes you need as a corner in the NFL?

CF: Instincts I think. They’re huge. And a short memory, because a lot of times if they catch passes on you, you’ve got to get over it. But above all you’ve got to have instincts to know where the ball is going.

All the more so on Sunday with the Patriots’ many receiving threats?

CF: Exactly. Good luck with that right? Hey, maybe if you can play we could have twelve on the field to help out?

I like it – the Rams secret weapon?

CF: Right! Let’s do it!

Are there any individual matchups the Rams particularly need to win on Sunday?

CF: Our punter versus their punter, no question. Be well aware of that one, they could come to blows early in the first quarter.

I understand – and will you dive in if it gets to that?

CF: No, no. I’m 0-1 lifetime so I’m just going to stay out of it.

In all seriousness, are you looking forward to Sunday?

CF: Yeah, I’m super excited and I think some of these guys are too. We got our sleep patterns right and we’ve been exercising and practicing well. You know we’re going to be ready.
