Diner’s Diary Definates by Khaled Elsayed 28/7/2009 The days are counting down until kick off and the anticipation is building up. The off season rumours are about to give way to training camp battles and pre season, and then once thats over weve all managed to make it through the long gap between when that Super Bowl trophy was hoisted up in victory, and when the ball flies off in the air ready to bring in the new season. It’s obvious everyone will be looking forward to games involving their own team, but there’s so much more to the NFL than just following your own team and there are some intriguing match ups that every NFL fan should be looking forward to. With that in mind the Diner looks at 10 games that have the potential to excite NFL fans regardless of team loyalties. 10. The Kick Off Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers. 10/09/2009 Its the kick off, the game weve all been waiting for and it involves two of the top teams in the NFL. How can you not be excited? Two mean defences pounding the hell out of each other is as good a way to reintroduce us all to football as there is. 9. A Rivalry Renewed New England Patriots @ Indianapolis Colts, 12/11/2009 One of the things we missed last year with Tom Bradys injury is the yearly battle between two Hall of Fame Quarterbacks in the prime of their career, but fortunately on the 12th of November well get to see one of the greatest quarterbacking rivalries of any generation rekindled as the Patriots visit the Colts. 8. Passing of a Torch Atlanta Falcons @ New England Patriots, 27/09/2009 Last year raised a great number of expectations about the career and potential of Matt Ryan and this meeting with Tom Bradys New England Patriots will be the first time we see this Elite Player elect match up against one of the NFLs two golden passers. It may prove irrelevant come the end of the season, but the intrigue factor of seeing this young pretender to the throne trying to better the tried and tested 3 time SuperBowl winner could prove a defining moment as we enter a new decade. 7. Beginning of a New Era St. Louis Rams @ Detroit Lions, 01/11/2009 This may end up completely wrong, but after a tough start to the season and a bye week just gone this may be when the NFL gets its first taste of Matt Stafford as a starter. Theres something about being able to witness the beginnings of something potentially great that makes this match between two unfashionable teams something like history in the making. 6. Purple Never Looked So Wrong Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings, 04/10/2009 It looks like its going to happen. It really looks like Packers legend Brett Favre is going to put on the purple jersey of the Minnesota Vikings and try to lead them to an NFL Championship. Its going to be weird watching the first few weeks of him playing for the Vikes, but theres only one thing that will out do watching him playing against the Pack. 5. Return of a King Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots, 14/09/2009 The NFL certainly missed Tom Brady last year and its never nice when a player in the prime of his career misses any time, especially after what he had produced the year before. There are plenty of questions regarding whether Brady will show any rust, if hell be completely healthy or if hell just come back as if nothing happened and until Sunday 14th September well still be waiting on the answers to that. 4. Best in the Business Oakland Raiders @ Houston Texans, 04/10/2009 Larry Fitzgerald followers may argue otherwise but Andre Johnson has a strong argument to being the best Wide Receiver in football. So on the 4th of October we get to see the best receiver in the game line up against the best cornerback in the game. Will the Texans target Johnson even though he has Asomugha on him? We saw Nnamdi shut down elite receivers last year like Roddy White and Steve Smith, but Andre Johnson is on another level to both these guys and could we see his physicality best the guy most see as the best cornerback in the NFL? 3. The 1st Pick of the 2004 Draft Is … San Diego Chargers @ New York Giants, 09/11/2009 Anytime Eli Manning lines up against the Chargers its going to be must watch television. Throw in the fact this is the first time that we get to see Philip Rivers line up against Eli and this has the elements of being the kind of game that will generate a fantastic atmosphere. Now if only we can get Rivers talking trash at Eli. Ah to dream. 2. Favre back at Lambeau Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers, 01/11/2009 I mentioned there being one thing out doing watching Favre line up against the Packers, and thats watching Brett Favre line up against Green Bay at Lambeau Field. What kind of reaction is he going to get from the fans that once adored him? It will be a sight for the ages watching Favre trying to destroy what he helped create. 1. The SuperBowl 07/02/2009 Its the SuperBowl. Added bonus being that theres an outside chance that my team may be in there. The whole season builds towards it and theres no yearly sports spectacle quite like it. It may be many months away, but Im already looking forward to it.
