NCAA Scouting Jody Jamieson’s 2010 1st Round Mock Draft V2.0 Updated 10th January 2010 by Jody Jamieson 10/1/2010 1. St Louis Rams Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame Most people think this will be Ndamukong Suh and theres a very good case to be made for taking the Nebraska talent, but St Louis need a quarterback more than anything else, and Clausen is the best available. 2. Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska Taking a left tackle is still a priority for the Lions, but they can wait till Round 2. Suh is an elite prospect who they simply cant pass up. 3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma This is a relatively simple selection for Tampa Bay. They need help inside, and McCoy is a good fit for their defense. Im sure theyd prefer Suh, but this is a nice consolation prize. 4. Washington Redskins Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma I think this pick should be a left tackle, but Dan Snyder will not be able to pass on the big name quarterback. Mike Shanahan has no loyalty to Jason Campbell and is unlikely to keep him around. 5. Kansas City Chiefs Eric Berry, S, Tennessee Kansas City could also go with a left tackle and move Brandon Albert inside, but they shouldnt pass on the playmaking safety. Berry is a marvellous prospect who will help shore up KCs awful defense. 6. Seattle Seahawks Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State Matt Hasselbeck amazingly survived the 2009 series with all his vital organs intact. That being said, it was touch and go. Left tackle is their #1 priority even if Hasselbeck moves on and they have their pick of the tackles here. Okung is a no brainer. 7. Cleveland Browns Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama Cleveland need defense, and could really take anything here. I dont think McClain should be the pick here, especially with Joe Haden still on the board, but Cleveland do need an inside linebacker, and McClain is a reasonable fit for their system. 8. Oakland Raiders Taylor Mays, S, USC I see no chance that its anyone else. Mays is a physical freak and Al Davis will fall in love with him. Safety just happens to be a position of need. This is a marriage made in hell, but a marriage that will be consummated in April. 9. Buffalo Bills – Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma Buffalo have a lot of needs, but OT presents the best value. Buffalo need help all over the offensive line and could take Mike Iupati in round two if hes still there. In round one they shore up left tackle. 10. Jacksonville Jaguars Tim Tebow, QB, Florida I find it hard to believe the rumours that the Jags will take Tebow in the first round with a view to selling tickets to Gator Nation, but it worries me that this rumour has been flying about for ages and no-one has denied it. They may be happy to let everyone think theyll take Tebow as a smokescreen, but I have no idea. For now, I will assume the rumours are true. 11. Denver Broncos (from Chicago Bears) Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State Heyward is really emerging as an excellent 5 technique, and the Broncos need to upgrade their defense, which started well but completely fell apart in 2009? Dont be surprised if the pick is Carlos Dunlap, and McDaniels likes picking 4-3 players for his 3-4 defense. I was never a Tyson Jackson fan, and he went #3 to the Chiefs last year. If Jackson can go in the Top 3, then 11 really isnt too high for Heyward. 12. Miami Dolphins Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama Jason Ferguson played well early on, but hes old and got injured. They need a new nose tackle and its a straight up competition between Cody and Dan Williams of Tennessee. Im mocking them Cody. 13 San Francisco 49ers Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers I took a bit of flak in not having Davis in My Top 32 but there was a very simple explanation for this. My list was very preliminary and I havent seen a lot of him. The beauty of a Mock Draft is I can put him wherever I want and I assume the hype is justified. 14 Seattle Seahawks (from Denver Broncos) Everson Griffen, DE, USC Griffen is another player who is shooting up the draft boards and I like what I see. People are going to take a dim view of Carlos Dunlaps recent issues, so Seattle will feel much more comfortable taking Griffen over Dunlap. 15 New York Giants Brandon Spikes, ILB, Florida The Giants have not committed to bringing back Antonio Pierce next year. His play declined a little before injuries ended his season and hes due $4.75 million in 2010. If he is moved on, Brandon Spikes is a nice option to replace him. 16. Tennessee Titans Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida Dunlap has some major red flags, but if theres one team that feel they can deal with this, its the Titans. Remember they managed to get the best out of Albert Haynesworth for a number of years despite numerous problems on and off the field. Theyll feel they can control Dunlap and get the best out of him. 17. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina Panthers) Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU The Niners need an offensive tackle, pass rush and a cornerback. They have the tackle and Jerry Hughes is an exciting prospect. I love the fit. They can take a corner in round 2 and be very happy with their work. 18. Pittsburgh Steelers Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State Pittsburgh are short at defensive back, and safety might be a slightly bigger priority than corner, but with no great options theyll look at corner. Wilson has the ability to establish himself over the next couple of months at the Senior Bowl and Combine and could be the number # corner. 19. Atlanta Falcons Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State Cornerback is a huge need for the Falcons, who simply must upgrade the position in the first two rounds. To be honest the position is easy but the pick is not, as the cornerback market is a crapshoot after Joe Haden right now. Robinson is the pick right now, but it could be changed to Donovan Warren, Trevard Lindley or Ras-I Dowling. 20. Houston Texans Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State I recently posted what I think the Texans should do this year in the Draft, but Im not projecting any trades, and will assume the Texans dont trade up. Odrick is a solid DT who will fit nicely into their system. Check out JJs Draft Tracker over the coming weeks and months for my thoughts on the Draft. First up is the Houston Texans strategy and what I think they should be doing.
