NFL Draft 2010 NCAA Scouting
Jody Jamieson’s 2010 1st Round Mock Draft V3.0
Updated 21st February 2010
by Jody Jamieson
21/2/2010

1. St Louis Rams Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame

Its either going to be Clausen or Ndamukong Suh, but passing up on the quarterback at this juncture is a bad move. Theyve missed out on some good quarterbacks in the past few years by sticking with Marc Bulger. Clausen is one of the most NFL ready quarterbacks to ever come out early and while Suh and McCoy are rare talents, theyre not going to help the Rams win games and get the fans back without a competent offense.

Ndamukong Suh 2. Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska

Assuming the Rams take the QB, this is a straight up choice between Suh and McCoy. Suh are rightly 1 and 1a as far as defensive tackles go, and both would be a fantastic choice for Detroit. Offensively theyre definitely getting there, but they need to become at least competent defensively. This would be a fantastic start.

3. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma

Tampa are mostly in the same boat as the Lions. Offensively they are competent, and there are no real options here that would improve their offense. Defensively however they have major issues and need to become much better up front. McCoy is a rare DT who will be a threat both against the run and on third and long.

4. Washington Redskins Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma

The Skins could go OT here, but Sam Bradford is the big name quarterback in this Draft, and we know how Dan Snyder rolls. This in my opinion is the second easiest pick in the Draft (see Oakland) as it fits a need and a trend. There are definite worries about Bradford with his 2009 injuries, but he has the it factor and I think he can be a big success on Sundays.

5. Kansas City Chiefs Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma State

The Chiefs have a lot of needs, but if they get the chance to take the best OT in the Draft and kick Brandon Albert inside then thats an opportunity they have to take. Matt Cassel is average, but he needs protection.

6. Seattle Seahawks Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers

Seattle are another with needs everywhere, but with two first round picks, they at least have options. Anthony Davis comes in and plays left tackle from Day 1 and instantly upgrades an offensive line that spent 16 games getting Matt Hasselbeck killed in 2009.

7. Cleveland Browns Eric Berry, S, Tennessee

This is a great situation for the Browns. They need an upgrade at safety, and one of the best safety prospects of all time falls to them at 7. Eric Berry has the potential to be a superstar in the NFL and while the Browns defense will likely still suck in 2010, but at least they may have a potential game-changer in the secondary.

8. Oakland Raiders Taylor Mays, S, USC

This is the easiest call of the entire Draft. Myself and Diner writer Paul Hopkins did a 2009 NFL Mock Draft and bottled out of mocking Darrius Heyward-Bey to the Raiders at 7. This year there are sensible options to go at 8, but this is the Raiders and Al Davis will fall madly in love with Taylor Mays.

9. Buffalo Bills Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland

Offensive tackle is a huge need for the Bills. With Okung and Davis gone, Campbell is next in line. This would be a nice pickup for Buffalo and hell be able to help right away.

10. Jacksonville Jaguars Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida

Im not a big fan of JPP but he has intriguing potential. Someone in desperate need of a pass rusher will reach for him and the Jags may be the ones who take the plunge.

11. Denver Broncos (from Chicago Bears) Joe Haden, CB, Florida

I have my doubts that Haden will fall to 11, but its not completely out of the question. Haden is a special talent that the Broncos wont be able to pass up, despite corner not being their biggest need.

12. Miami Dolphins Dan Williams, DT, Tennessee

Jason Ferguson isnt getting any younger and the Dolphins need to get stronger on the defensive line. Dan Williams has emerged as the top nose tackle in the Draft class and would be a great fit for the Fins.

13 San Francisco 49ers Bryan Bulaga, OT, Iowa

The Niners really need a right tackle and Bulaga is the one tackle among the best in this class who projects best to play RT. He could slide over to LT eventually, but will play RT in Week 1.

14 Seattle Seahawks (from Denver Broncos) Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida

Pass rush is needed badly in Seattle. Carlos Dunlap has thrown up some red flags in his final Gator season, but theres no doubting his talent. If anyone will think he can get the best out of Dunlap, its Pete Carroll.

15 New York Giants Rolando McClain, LB, Alabama

Antonio Pearce was released at the start of February, and the Giants will look for an immediate replacement in the first round of the Draft. Rolando McClain may find his best fit in a 3-4, but thats not to say he cant play MIKE in a 4-3.

Derrick Morgan 16. Tennessee Titans Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech

Kyle Vanden Bosch is getting old and the Titans struggled to get any pressure on the quarterback in 2009. Derrick Morgan is viewed as the number 1 DE by a lot of Draftniks and the Titans often draft for value.

17. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina Panthers) Mike Iupati, G, Idaho

It would be bizarre to see a team have two first round picks and use them both on the offensive line, but the upgrade would be immense. Iupati is the best guard prospect since Shawn Andrews and Alex Smith will enjoy the protection.

18. Pittsburgh Steelers Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State

Wilson has really stepped up his game in his senior year and has put himself in with a great chance of being a first round pick. The Steelers need help at cornerback and will be looking to upgrade.

19. Atlanta Falcons Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri

Weatherspoon didnt have the best year in 2009, but hes such a talent that I find it hard to see him dropping out of the first round. The Falcons need a weak side linebacker and Weatherspoon is the best of the bunch.

20. Houston Texans Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse

Houstons defense continues to hold the team back and they need to upgrade. Jones is another emerging talent who may have done enough in his senior year to be a first round talent.

21. Cincinnati Bengals CJ Spiller, RB, Clemson

Cedric Benson had a great 2009 but the Bengals didnt have anyone to complement him. Benson had 37 carries in one game this year and the load really needs to be spread out. Spiller can double up as a punt returner and give the Bengals a backfield to be proud of.

22. New England Patriots Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB, TCU

Hughes in my favourite hybrid player in this draft, and while this isnt a big need for the Pats, Hughes is too good of a talent to turn down.

23. Green Bay Packers Charles Brown, OT, USC

The Packers offensive line was terrible last year. They almost have no choice to but to upgrade here.

24. Philadelphia Eagles Everson Griffen, DE, USC

The Eagles could do with an upgrade at left end to compliment Trent Cole. Everson Griffen can slot in right away and improve the defensive line.

25. Baltimore Ravens Damien Williams, WR, USC

The first wide receiver comes off the board as the third USC player in a row is taken. With Derrick Mason getting on and no real emerging talent there to take his place, the Ravens will take a wide receiver.

26. Arizona Cardinals Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama

Everyone has their major doubts about Mount Cody, but it still wouldnt surprise me to see him taken at the end of the first round. Arizona could do with taking a nose tackle, and they dont get any bigger than Cody.

27. Dallas Cowboys Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida

Keith Brooking has been a marvellous addition to the Cowboys, but they need to get younger inside. Spikes can rotate in and become a long term replacement.

28. San Diego Chargers Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State

Vincent Jackson had a great year in 2009 but the Chargers still need to upgrade the position. Bryant has had his own problems but is still a first round talent.

Brandon LaFell 29 New York Jets Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU

Braylon Edwards was as frustrating as ever after a mid season trade. Mark Sanchez needs the weapons outside to help his development.

30 Minnesota Vikings Kris ODowd, C, USC

ODowd may be seen as a reach in the first round, but the Vikings never adequately replaced Matt Birk.

31 Indianapolis Colts Jared Odrick, DT, Penn State

Indianapolis always need to upgrade the interior defensive line. Despite the excellent performances of Daniel Muir and Antonio Johnson in the AFC Championship Game, both are restricted free agents and could be replaced. Odrick is a nice fit in their defense.

32 New Orleans Saints Brandon Graham, DE, Michigan

Its never easy to find areas of need with a Super Bowl Champion but one area that needs to be improved is their pass rush. Brandon Graham translates well as an outside linebacker and as a 4-3 pass rusher.
